COMPETITION FOR FATS.
Dalgcty and Company, limited, report on their Fcilding sale:—Good entries came to hand in all sheep sections, but in the cattle pens, the entries were on the lighter side. Fat sheep again met with strong competition, particularly heavy owes; the market again firmed. Prime wethers held their own. One odd lots of prime hoggets were included in the yarding, but these sold at the best of recent prices. Store sheep comprised principally hoggets, of which the quality was rather better than the average that has been the case during the last month. Buying power was present from Taranaki and the Main Trunk, which helped to absorb the offering at very firm prices. Breeding ewes owing to the nearness of lambing were confined to about six pens. Competition was strong, with a good sale. A lighter entry of beef cattle, particularly dairy sorts, met with fair sale. No run-bred store cattle were offered, and although the dairy pens were not filled to the same extent as previous weeks, a good supply came to hand, but the market was. inclined to be indifferent here.
