The Victoria University College Club had a run at Melling. The paper led up the. river along the stop-bank, skirted the golf links, and dodged through the gorse to meet the road again at Tana. There ■ were two packs, and they covered the flat five- miles at a last training pace. D. Cairns confirmed ins easy superiority over his clubmates '.si the championship by setting the pace all the way for the fast pack, after having just returned from laying the trail. He finished fresh enough to secure second place in the run-in Cairns is showing easily his best form since running with the club, and Jt- * ?ars in mind tha experience gamed in. recent races, is expected to be well placed at Masterton. Horslev a"d Bagnall, though running somewhat better- on Saturday, will have to improve not a little if they are to live effective support to Cairns in the team. Lack of training has definitely left it= mark on Bagnall.
