SCOTTISH CLUB

The wind was troublesome for the Scottish Club's handicap race for the Hislop Memorial Rose Bowl.

After giving away starts up to 7£min J. Riddington (scr) just failed to repeat his performance in the Ballantyne Cup race. However, he ran into second place to Frederic (smin ssec) and annexed' fastest time honours, his time being 36min 34sec for the 10,000 metres. . . -.'•.-

As a mark, of respect to the late Mr. G: Lauchlan, a vice-president of the club, members wore a black armband.

The course was along the beach from a point opposite Freyberg Street, towards Moa Point. The road was then crossed and the runners followed the boundary fence of the golf links, the course being similar to that used for last year's New Zealand championship race. The runners came down the steep incline at the head of Monorgan Road, thence to Broadway, and Kingsford Smith- Street- ■ The beach road was then followed to Moa,Point. The same course was taken :to Kingsford Smith Street again, where the football ground was skirted and this brought the runners on to Endeavour Street. The finish was at the foot of Freyberg Street.

At Kingsford Smith, Street the first time round, Templeton was in the lead, followed "by Frederic, McGruar, and Jones. At Moa Point Frederic was leading and Clement had come up into second place. Frederic' had a lead of about 300 yards at Kingsford Smith Street the-second time round, Clement still being second, with Buchanan third. Entering Endeavour Street, a bunch comprising Tunbridge, ' Bruce, Woodley, Riddington, and Violich, camo through. Riddmgton was running easily. : He soon was in second place and set out after Frederic, but failed to catch him by about fifty yards. : <• ■

Finishing positions and times were as follows:—Frederic (smin ssec), 43min 52sec, 1; Riddiriston (scr), 44min 4sec, 2; Tunbridge (51sec), 44min 12sec, 3; Bruce (lmin 24sec), 44min 22sec, 4; Violich (2min 50sec), 44min 30sec, 5; Woodley (lmin 30sec), 44min 40sec, 6; Buchanan (3min 36sec), 44min 48sec, 7; Clement (4min ssec), 44min 52sec, 8; Elleray ( —), 44min 53sec,
