AMERICAN DROUGHT

WASHINGTON; August 6.

The drought was pronounced officially today by Mr. J. B. Kincer in a Weather Bureau report as by- far the most severe in . the climatic history of the United States.

Mr. H. A. Wallace, Secretary of Agriculture, stated: that the 1934 drought was worse in the spring and early summer, but for duration ' and geographical scope the present was the worst on record. Mr. Wallace explained that the country, imported 35,000,000 bushels of Canadian wheat in 1934 and the present spring .wheat crop was still shorter. ;
