Mr. M. A. Holbein, the famous swimmer, who is now'7s years of age, last evening swam in the Thames from Richmond lock to London Bridge, a distance of eighteen miles, in five and a half hours.. . . .

ijln Holbein'has had many notable river swims. He made nine attempts to swim the Channel, his last being on his fifty-second . birthday. He was nearest success in 1902, when he gave up within 500 yards of Dover.
