BRIGADE NOTES
The Chief Commissioner for the Dominion has approved of the following appointments in the St. John Ambulance Brigade:—District staff, Clarence Meachen, to be district officer (stores); Waipawa division, Eric R. Hutchings to be divisional superintendent, vice R. Eagle, resigned; Brooklyn nursing division, Mrs. A. G. Miller to be presMent, vice Mrs. Waters, resigned. - r .. . . Service Certificates. : Service certificates, in recognition of five years' efficient service in the brigade, have been issued to the following v members:—Wellington South Nursing Division: Cadet Officer. V.L. Miles, Ambulance Sisters M. O'Brien, K. Hakaria, N. P. Albrechtsen, and E. Cleaver. • Sports Returns,. Owing to the postponement of all sports last Saturday except the two representative matches, no returns are available for that day. An interesting summary of all sports returns for the season to date has been compiled. These returns refer to all parks in the Wellington and suburbs, together with four parks in Petone, but excluding those in the Hutt Valley. For the month of July, members of the brigade put in a total of 359 attendances at the sports grounds and attended to 494 cases. ; Revised figures for the whole winter sports season to date (May to July 31) show that members of the brigade gave 869 attendances and treated 1435 cases. In Wellington and suburbs, 32 parks are staffed by members of the brigade each Saturday, and the figures refer to Rugby, Association, League, , basketball, and hockey. These . attendances 'at the various parks are entirely voluntary on the part of members and are carried out whatever the weather conditions may be.' Art Gallery. A number of members of the brigade were on duty at the opening of the National War Memorial and Art Gallery on Saturday last. Although their services were required in several instances nothing of a- serious nature .eventuated. • . ' Corps Meeting. The next! corps meeting is being held on August. 13, 'at 7.45 p.m,, wh'en Dr. W. Macdonald will deliver a lec-ture-on "Deafness." At'the conclusion of the parade, a meeting of officers of all ambulance and ambulance cadet divisions is being held to discuss several matters of interest to the men's divisions. *■ ... -..'.... Y.W.C.A. No. 2 Nursing Division. The usual meeting of-this division was held last Thursday. Among thosepresent were the superintendent, Mrs. M. Russel, and several members of the senior division who had accepted the invitation to be present for the dental lecture. Members were notified of the forthcoming annual inspection (to be an outdoor function) and of the consequent special'drill training. Mr. A. Dickens delivered a very interesting dental lecture, and at his request several members took the opportunity of solving many dental problems. The appreciation of all was shown by the hearty vote of thanks accorded to Mr. Pickens. ■ ■ .
