■ JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Some lively and clever wrestling was witnessed last evening in the Kilbirnie Gymnasium when the preliminaries of the Wellington Wrestling Association's junior amateur championships were held. The majority of the bouts were of a high standard, and a variety of holds and a good knowledge of matwork were displayed by the competitors.
Several youngsters in the lighter classes showed distinct promise in science and ringcraft. Most of the heavier contests were exciting, and the crowd was kept on its toes the whole lime. The finishes in many cases were particularly close. Among those present from the Wellington Wrestling Association were Messrs. A. G.Washnr, J. C. Steele (secretary), J. R. Hughes, and W. Tibbie. Grint (Kilbirnie), list. 12st 71b Light-heavyweight.—Liddle (Johnsonville), 12st 51b, beat E. Sandford (Kilbirnie), lOst 81b, by two falls. SECOND ROUND. 951b Class.—T. Rae (Kilbirnie), 6st 71b, beat L. Mahoney (Johnsonville), by two falls; K. Ruby (Kilbirnie), 6st 91b, beat W. McFadgeon (Island Bay) 6st 101b, by one fall; D. Hayes (Kool-^ man),, 6st 81b, proved too clever for J Prestney (Kilbirnie), 6st 41b, gaining two falls early in the bout.
The other second round bouts and semi-finals will be contested tonight and tomorrow night at the Kilbirnie Gymnasium.
