McDermbtt, Cloudy Range cracked 2min 40secin. a trial mile and a quarter, and although, he won races afterwards, he did not dp quite as well as expected at tills distance, mainly because he did-,not always make the best use of his handicap at the start. . . , > Since New Year his improvement has been an outstanding feature of the sport in Canterbury, and he,has,won over a mile and a quarter and .two miles as only a first-class pacer • can. His polished defeat of De Soto ■ at Ashburton, even allowing for-* the ground the latter lost at the starts was a revelation in view of De SotoV subsequent form at Epsom. ' Cloudy Range, until the autumn, was .considered a better sprinter- thaft" a. staj er, and he is entitled to see a 'short price in the-International Handicap [at Addington on Saturday.
