CLOTHES ABLAZE

MAN SERIOUSLY BURNED

(By Tqlegraph.—Press Association.)

. OAMAEU, August 3. „ This evening a railway hut occupied 'by Bernard Rothwell, a bridge carpenter, of Port Chalmers, who was engaged on foreshore protection work at the Oamaru 'railway yards, suddenly caught fire. Rothwell escaped with his clothes ablaze. He was removed to hospital, and his condition is serious from very severe burns.

It is understood the cause of the sudden blaze was the igniting of some petrol.

Improvements and widening to parts of the Akatarawa Road by the Public Works Department were commended by the roads committee of the Wellington Automobile Association at the association's meeting last night.
