SAPLING STAKES, 1937

After the payment of first forfeits for the 1937 New Zealand Sapling Stakes, 108 two-year-olds:. still stand their ground, but in the list comparatively few sires are represented. Two sires in Jack Potts and Frank Worthy claim more than ■ one-third of the youngsters engaged, Jack Potts being represented by 26, no fewer than 12 of which are entered in the nomination of the ownerl of the sire, while Frank Worthy claims 20. Next on the list are Truman Direct and Man-o'-War, with 4 nine each, and then follow Grattan Loyal and Great Bingen with seven each, and Travis Axworthy with six. Rey de Oro and Wrack, the two leading sires, are poorly represented in numbers but this is accounted for by their absence from Canterbury two seasons ago. The big number of present yearlings remaining in the race shows the confidence of owners in. classic racing, and illustrates confidence in the Ashburton ■ Trotting Club. .
