CYCLE RACING
PONEKE'S MAKARA T.T.
Tomorrow the Poneke Club will hold its annual open event, the Makara Time Trial over a twenty-five-miles course, probably the most difficult in New Zealand. The start will be from the Central Fire Station, Jervois: Quay. The race will be under Olympic conditions, each rider having to ride unpaced and without assistance over the entire distance. The first will leave at 2 p.m., the others following at oneminute intervals in the order drawn by the handicapper, Mr. M. Matson. With riders from the Petone and Port Nicholson Clubs also taking part, competition for the two major prizes, the Abel Cup (for first in the handicap section) and the Matson Cup (for the fastest rider) will be keen. The course takes in Johnsonville, the Ohariu Valley, the Makara Hill, and Karori. Following the tram route from Karori the riders will proceed to the Wadestown tram junction, where they will be directed to the Hutt Road. A turn will then be made into Thorndon Quay and from there competitors return to the Central Fire Station, where the prizes won will be presented.
A junior race for the two cups will also' be held. This will be to Petone crossing and back—also time trial.
Post entries will be taken for both races.
