FRUIT SHIPMENTS
PROVISION AT PORTS
Delegates to the annual conference of, fruit exporters discussed today a number of remits concerning the arrangements made for the shipment of fruit from New Zealand ports.
The Motueka exporters proposed, and the conference approved, that the Nelson Harbour Board should be approached on the subject of providing the cool storage space necessary for the best handling of export. The Fruit Board was asked to continue every effort to arrange for all Canterbury fruit to be shipped direct from Lyttelton.
Hawke's Bay exporters expressed their warm appreciation of the arrangements made by the board for the direct shipment of fruit from Napier.
Mr, F. King, in moving that from now on the largest possible quantity of Hawke's Bay fruit be sent from that port, said that the saving to exporters'had amounted to fourpence tier case. As Napier was the last p"ort of call in New Zealand for a large number of Home boats the advantage which followed upon the arrangements made by the board with the shipping companies was very great.'
