LOWER HUTT EFFORT

RED CROSS-PLUNKET BALL

The final meeting of the committee of the Lower Hutt Red Cross-Plunket ball, 1936, was held in the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday last, Mr. N. T. Gillespie presiding.

The statement of income and expenditure showed a credit balance of £76 12s. 4d. The secretaries were instructed to forward cheques to the Lower Hutt branch of the Red Cross Society and of the Plunket Society for £38 6s 2d each, representing half the net profits.

Pleasure was expressed by Mrs. John Mitchell, on behalf of the Lower Hutt branch of the Bed Cross Society, and by Mrs. J. W. Andrews, on behalf of the PZunket Society, at the successful result of the function, and each expressed her society's appreciation of the work which had been done by the committee, the chairman (Mr. N. T. Gillespie), and the secretaries (Messrs. C. M. Hill and L. V. Phillips). The meeting also expressed its appreciation of the services rendered by Messrs. W. Burton, M. Upton, and T. Waugh, the Lower Hutt Borough Council, the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board, and the Hutt River Board, the Toe H, and Rover Groups.

General pleasure was expressed at the splendid" music provided by Sherwood's Sylvana Orchestra and the Revellers' Dance Band, and the special thanks of the committee were accorded to the proprietors of the King George Theatre through Mr. A. J. Toogood for the use of their hall free of charge, and to Mr. J. M. Carlson and staff for their ready assistance. The ladies' committee was particularly appreciative of the excellent service rendered by Messrs. Macduff's, Ltd., and Leibezeit's Novelty Stores for the loan of the large amount of crockery necessary for the supper arrangements.

"We. the members of the Pluhket Society, desire particularly to pay tribute to the smooth and efficient standard that has been attained in the organisation and preparation of the ball," said Mrs. E. Cameron, the local secretary of the Plunket Society.
