HELPFUL DISCUSSION

Wednesday was one of Wellington's wprst days, but the Brooklyn Methodist Schoolroom, which was warm and I comfortable, was well filled with deiej gates from all the Wellington branches lof the Women's Christian Temperance j Union. ■ There was little formal business, but much helpful discussion and comparing; notes on methods of work. The forthcoming annual district -convention was fully planned. It is to be held in September, and, on the invitation of the Wellington Central Union, at the Y.W.C.A. rooms, with an evening social meeting at the Constable Street rooms. At that meeting office-bearers will be elected, and nominations must be in the hands of Mrs. Tanner, seoretary, by September.

Many plans of work were discussed and suggestions passed on, with regard to means of educating the young in temperance ideals, of promoting peace, of helping the sick in the hospital, and also after their discharge, and of raising the money necessary for carrying on the work.

Miss Kirk, J.P., out of her wide and deep experience,.gave a*talk on some aspects of the work of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, and commended such topics to the earnest consideration of all branches. She also answered a question on the present and future utility of the W.C.T.U. Headquarters in Brougham Street, where W.C.T.TJ. literature and library are always available, and visitors are always welcome.

Mrs. Brooker, president of the Brooklyn W.C.T.U., warmly welcomed visiting delegates, and the Brooklyn ladies were most cordially thanked for their kind and generous hospitality. Mrs Kennedy gave great pleasure by her delightful singing of-'.thrss songs
