FIRST BRITISH CASUALTY
(Received May 29, 1 p.m.) 3 ERUSALEM," May 20. British troops were fired on at Jeniu and returned the fire, killing • two Arabs and wounding four others. The Arabs are damaging the Jewish orange groves, and setting fire to forests. The Royal Air Force is 'conducting- air searches for terrorists. Arab stone throwers, at Jaffa attacked a lorry load of Jews from -, Tel Aviv, and a policeman ■* fired killing an Arab. An angry crowd was dispersed by the police. Moslem celebrations coinciding with. Whitsuntide have been curtailed and the money is being devoted to continuance of the Arab strike. An official communique warns strikers that tear gas will be used if necessary. . Arab newspapers throughout Palestine are suspending publication for three days, during which time the staffs intend to disseminate privately news which the Government has refused to allow them to publish. The first British casualty in the ,riots is a policeman, Robert Bird, who was shot in the stomach at close range while patrolling in the old city.
