EMPIRE BROADCASTS
AN IMPROVED SERVICE
RESULT OF EXPERIMENTS
(Received January 3, noon.)
LONDON, January 2.
Discussing plans for developing Empire broadcasting, Sir Noel Ashbridge, chief engineer of the 8.8.C., says the new station to be established at Daventry will use 13 beams directed to various parts of the Empire. "After two years' experiment," he .states, "we have narrowed the beams which serve the various countries in order to increase signal strength." Though the new beam is not sharply denned, it will cover an arc of roughly 40 degrees, compared with 70 degrees formerly. This will necessitate' using a greater number of transmissions to cover the same area. It is expected that the new station will be completed in 15 months. , The Australian Associated Press is informed that reception in Australia will consequently benefit equally with other Dominions.
