RESCUE IN CHANNEL

SKILFUL GERMAN CAPTAIN

LONDON, December 31

Fine seamanship on the part of the captain of the German liner Westernland contributed to the rescue of three members of the crew of the trawler Satanile in very rough weather with a southerly gale, in the Channel early today.

The Westernland was manoeuvred alongside the disabled trawler and two of the crew hauled aboard. The captain was rescued by the Torbay lifeboat, but the third member of the crew was drowned.
