ITALY ACTIVE

DODECANESE ISLANDS

LONDON, January 1.

The "Daily Telegraph's" Athens correspondent says that a courier from the Dodecanese Islands, reaching Athens after eluding Italian guards, claims that there are more than 50,000 men there, which is double the native population on Rhodes and Leros alone, and claimed that four Italian cruisers, 17 destroyers, and 12 submarines are now in the neighbourhood, while 900 airmen and 250 machines are assembled at the islands.

It is officially stated in London that the Government has long been aware of Italian activity in the Dodecanese .Islands, but had no confirmation of the precise figures of ships, men. and machines.
