PIGEON RACING-
WELLINGTON SOCIETY
The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society recently flew a special flock race from Frankton Junction, 247 miles airline, for a silver cup donated by Dr. Gillies. The following were the first eight placings:—
Murphy and Sherwood's b.c.c, 172-34, 6hr 58min 18sec, 1; L. Perkins's blk c, 509-34, 7hr Omin 36.55 ec, 2; W.. Smith's b.ch., 169-34, 7hr 2min Bsec, 3; A. Croskery and Son's r.p.c, 136-32, 7hr Bmin 49.25 ec, 4; J. Perrett's r.c.c., 14-34, 7hr 49min 22.55 ec, 5; C. Webster and Son's y.h., 384-34, 7hr 49min 48sec, 6; Dr. Gillies's b.-p.h., 303-34, 7hr 50min 33.25 ec, 7; N. Boyd and Son's, b.ch., 134-34, Bhr lOmin 50.9 sec, 8. A flock race was also flown from Opua, 426 miles airline. Favourable conditions were met by the birds and they put up the splendid velocity of over 1400 yards per minute over the journey. Results:—B. Clement's b.c.p.h.. 15-32, 1427.2 yards per minute, 1; F. Coupcr and Son's m.c, 93-32, 1419.1 yards per minute, 2; A. Croskery and Sons, b.c.p.c, 150-32, 1418.4 yards per minute. 3- J. Perrett's b.ch., 182-32, 1416.7 yards per minute, 4; Murphy and-Sherwood s be.c, 212-31, 1371.4 yards per minute, 5: Dr. Gillies's b.ch., 305-34,.1350.2 yards per minute, 6; C. Egginton's blk c. ( 106-33, 1277.8 yards per minute, 7; A. Clement's b.p.c, 349-34, 1251.1 yards per minute, 8. _ A combined race between the Hut!, Petone, and Wellington Clubs from Opua for a rose-bowl kindly made and donated by Mr. McArdle, Lower Hutt. resulted: G. Woodward. Petone, 138 i yards per minute, 1; B. Clements, Wellington, 1383 yards per minute, 2: Reid and Son, Hutt, 1333 yards per minute, ° A flock race from Invercargill, 476 miles airline, was flown by the Wellington Society. Hard head winds made the race a very hard one snd the birds were over 15 hours on the journey, and only six birds homed on the day. The results were as follows:— F. Couper and Son's "Ginger," 15hr 19min 1; C. Webster and Son's b.ch., 15hr 19min 28sec, 2; F. Ferris's b.c.c, 15hr 23min 40.8 sec, 3; Dr. Gillies's b.ch., 15hr 30min 25sec, 4; W. Smith's-b.c.h.. 17hr smin 34sec, 5; B. Clement's r.c.c, 20hr 25min 45sec, 6; Murphy and Sherwood's b.b.h., 20hr 28min 17sec, 7; A. Croskery and Son's-b.ch., 21hr 50mm 52sec 8. This race concluded the. south programme. Messrs. Webster and Son won the South Cup, donated by H. Murphy, Esq., for the third year in succession. Dr. Gillies gained, second place for most points..
