MOONBEAM ALL THE WAY
Moonbeam provided the young Riccarton trainer J, C. Torajtmson with his first success on his Present trip to the North Island when she led throughout to win the Champion Hack Han-, dicap. Darecourt challenged courageously over the last furlong, but the mare held him at bay by a length The success was some compensation for Tomkinson and his patron Mr. W. A. White for losing the services of the promising two-year-old. Sunbeam for most of the present trip. Moonbeam was recently a winner at Hororata, and was also second on the first day at Manawatu, so her form is good. She* was beaten into fifth place on the final day at Awapuni, but she was meeting Darecourt at 121b better terms yesterday over a distance that probably suited her the more, and as a result she was a few tickets better fancied in the betting. She is a five-vcar-old half-sister by . Night Raid to Sir Roy and Don Quixote. Darecourt. was another member of the George stable to fail in doing the expected, and he also appeared to be very poorly handled. Though third or fourth to the straight he was off the course, and then he had to bump up to keep Grand Blow from closing the narrow gap through which he had to make his challenge./ Confiscation was a fair third attei a somewhat crowded passage. Chaste, also pressed for room, was fourth, with Cheerful Day running on next. Grand Blow, after dashing up on the turn, dropped out when Darecourt forced him off the track. Pawky, second to the straight, weakened to finish last. The last mile of this race took lmin 41 4-ssec and the last half-mile 50sec.
