FAVOURITE RUNS SECOND
The three first selections again filled the darings in the Novice Stakes, but again it was not the favourite who won though on this occasion he paid the other dWidend, a slightly losing investment. Sansfoy had every chance in the running, but he was decisively beaten at the end by Helen Ford Helen Ford has been consistent in recent efforts, with placings at her last three starts prior to yesterday, so she deserved her first success. After drawing the wide marble she was half a dozen horses back when they settled down, but she improved on the short stretch past the three furlongs to be lying in behind Mowgh and Sansfoy at the straight entrance and she then came on best to score by a length. This winner is a four-year-old bay mare by Cape Horn from the Kilbroney mare Peggy Ford, a half-sister to Bonrose, and she is owned by her breeder, Mr. C. A. Cameron, of Featherston, for whom she is trained by W Galbraith on the Tauheremkau track.' She has not had much racing, her win coming at her eighth start. Sansfoy, except for the fact that he was made rather much use of for a big horse of his breeding, requires no excuses He was floundering at the distance, but held on to second money safely enough.- Recitation, on the outside 'of Sansfoy behind Mowgli to the straight, then ran a little wide, but he came on again to keep Mynam just out of the collection. Myriam was fourth most, of the way. Mowgli again weakened over the last furlong, as he has always done in his races. Conception was best of the others. Gold Vein started from behind the field.
