RIVOLI THEATRE.

"Roberta" and "Paris in Spring" provide a first-rate programme at the Rivoli Theatre. The stars of "Roberta" are Irene Dunne. Fred Astaire, and Ginger Rogers. Melody and dance numbers and lavish fashion displays are woven logically into a fast-moving, thoroughly plausible story which combines tender romance with gay comedy. The story revolves about the comedy-rich situation of an AilAmerican football player falling heir io a fashionable Paris gown shop. The hero and .his band leader pal set the world of fashion agog, the hearts of the mademoiselles atwitter, and the feet of the Parisians aflame during tbe course of their hectic adventures. In addition to the original songs, among them "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," from the stage show, new Kern songs written especially for the film, are presented. Something entirely new in musical comedy romances is provided in "Paris in Spring, in which Mary Ellis, charming Metropolitan Opera star, and Tullio Carminati, have the leads. The film has a variety of elements, vtfhich include catchy music, romance, amusing situations, and fine staging. The singing of Mary Ellis is a feature of the production. She is cast as a famous cabaret singer I with whom Carminati is in love. The two leading players are admirably supported by Ida Lupino and Lynne Over|man. „„ , .. The first of the 1936 productions commences on Saturday, when the princioal attraction will be "She Married Her Boss," featuring Claudette Colbert.
