PERSONAL NOTES

Mrs. C. W. Salmon writes to a friend in Wellington that she and Mr. Salmon, after staying at Stafford, were leaving for Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield, Barrow-in-Furness, Glasgow, and other places in Scotland. They had spent a pleasant time with Mr. and Mrs. Wedgwood (who were in New Zealand last year), who have a small daughter, and who have very pleasant recollections of this country.

Canon and Mrs. James, Bolton Street, have left for a visit to Dunedin.

Mr. and Mrs. Alan Mulgan, Auckland, have taken up their residence in Wellington and are staying at St. Elmo, Hill Street. Later they will occupy Miss Harcourt's house in Hawkestone Street during her absence in England.

Mrs. H. O'Leary is spending part of the holidays at Auckland.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Perkins, Lower Hutt, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. G. Disney, Christchurch.

Mrs. Reading and her daughter, Miss Betty Reading, are the guests of Sir John Sinclair, Dunedin.

Miss C. Canavan, Sayes Court, is making a tour in the North Island.

Mrs. M. E. Tripe, Molesworth Street, is staying with Mrs. Douglas Williams in Hawke's Bay.

Mrs, T. Bedford, "Rostellan," Seatoun, is visiting Watoganui.

Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Thomson are guests at "Craignesf," The Terrace, having let their house to Mr. and Mrs. David G. Swartz, Holland.

Mrs. Harrap, Lyall Bay, is a visitor to Picton Sounds.

Mr. and Mrs. Sutcliffe and family, Karori, are spending the holidays . at Paraparaumu Beach.

Miss Harcourt, Hawkestone Street, is spending the holidays with the Misses Cobbe at Paraparaumu.

Mrs. R. H. Chalmers, Wellington, is among the visitors to Auckland.

Mr. and Mrs. George Haggitt and family, Dunedin, have taken Dr. Kemp's house at Paraparaumu for the holidays.

The Misses Bennetts, Wellington, are spending the holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. Bennetts, "Truro," Roxburgh.

Mrs. F. N. Young, Winchester, who has been visiting Wellington, will return to the south this week.

Miss Winifred Bust, Linwood, Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs. A. E. Hargreaves, Glenmore Street, Wellington.

Mrs. E. Read, Wellington, has accompanied her daughter for a tour in the Taranaki district.

Misses Stella Meikeljohn, Doris Cleland, and K. Mitchell are Wellington visitors to Whangarei.

The Misses Jessie Wilson (Lower Hutt) and Trixie Hargreaves (Glenmore Street, Wellington) are spending a holiday in the Eglington Valley at Queenstown.

Mr. and Mrs. Flock, also Miss Bellett, are Wellington visitors spending the holidays; at Whakatane Beach.

Mrs. Marshall Macdonald, Wellington, has arrived in Dunedin, and willleave on Saturday to take charge of the children's health camp at Waikouaiti. Owing to the excellent response to the health stamp : campaign, 125 children will be in camp this year—a considerable increase on last year's numbea They will come from Oamaru, Dunedin, Balclutha,' and Clyde.

Mr. and Mrs. Rolle, Wallace Street, Wellington, are making a tour of the North Island by motor-car.

Mr. and Mrs. C. Kirker, Taihape, are the guests of Mrs. J. Telford, Hataitai.

Miss C. E. Kirk and Miss Janet Atkinson left on Monday for Nelson.

Wellington visitors staying at the White Star Hotel, Queenstown, include Mr. H. Fairchild, Mr. K. B. Batty, Miss. E. Framjee, Miss M. Jennings, Mr. and Mrs. C. Murch, Miss S. Quirk, Mr. A. Hamilton, and Mrs. A. H. Green. There are also many visitors from England, Japan, New York, Malay States, Rhodesia, and Australia.

Mrs. Hynes (Brisbane), Mrs. J. O. Dick (Worcester), and Mrs. Burnard (England) are staying at the Midland Hotel.

Miss Cumberland (Auckland) and Miss Jessep (Wairoa) are staying at the Royal Oak Hotel.

Mrs. F. Findlay (Auckland), Mrs. W. R. P. Jaques (Nelson), Mrs. D. G. Powers (Auckland), and Mrs. R. Simmonds -(Melbourne) are staying at the Hotel St. George.

Mrs. A. Cooper, Mrs. S. E. Bold (Rugby, England), Mrs. J. G. Hornblow (Foxton), Mrs. C. Chipper (Levin), Miss McMillan (Dannevirke), Mrs. W. J. P. Ingley (Christchurch), Mrs. Eric Paton (Auckland), Mrs. G. M. Webster (New Plymouth), and Mrs. T. J. Salmon (Hawera) are staying at the Empire Hotel.

Professor Strong, Otago University, who has just received a New Year decoration, and Mrs. R. Lawson will leave tomorrow by car for North Auckland. They intend to spend some lime visiting the Maori villages, studying conditions there with a view to enrolling Maori girls as home science students.
