BOXING ON MONDAY.
The Town Hall next Monday evening should be the scene of some fast and thrilling boxing when C. Rayner (Blenheim) and J. Jarvis (Eltham) face each other in the ring for the first time in Wellington. The fact that their last meeting at Blenheim ended unfortunately for the former, in that Jarvis was awarded the decision on a foul in the ninth round, only serves to increase the speculation as to the eventual winner of the coming contest. Both have had a fair amount of experience as professionals. Rayner, until two or three weeks ago, held the fatherweight title, but relinquished it rather than sacrifice his strength by endeavouring to make the 9.0 limit, and he is confident that he will eventually be the holder of the lightweight title, at present held by Jarvis. The preceding amateur events will be well chosen. The box plan and other particulars are advertised in this issue.
