HYGIENIC PRECAUTIONS
(To the Editor.)
Siry—The frequent appeals for a more efficient service for the collection of Household refuse is apparently being treated -with complacent indifference by the City Council. With a view to safeguarding the health of the community surely it is the duty of the Health Department to intervene and insist on at least a' bi-weekly collection of refuse in congested areas. The Health Department would also be well advised to. insist on the clean-' ing and renewing of the bottom of Te Aro Baths. The bottom of 'the shallow portion of the., baths mentioned has- admittedly been renewed, but the remainder, requires ■immediate attention.-; An examination will prove that the existing-conditions are a very real menace. '
EinallJi the Health Department
should insist on the windows of our de luxe 4ramcar "Fiducia" being made to open to enable passengers to breathe fresh air instead of foul. Hygiene in all its phases is of the utmost importance during the present \iot summer weather.—l am, etc., PREVENTION.
