CAUTION AT MATAMATA
Before the first race at Matamata last batmday an unusual request, but one that further demonstrated the dryness of the country in the Waika'to,1 was made by tho bioadcast operator. Ho asked smokers to bo particulaily careful where they diopped matches and cigarette butts. Recognising the seriousness of the position, pations adopted precautionary measures, but the tension was relieved when rain set in after the fourth race and continued at intervals until the meeting ended.
