A very happy and cordial reception was given to Miss Sheila Mac Donald (daughter of the Prime Minister of England), who is concluding her tour lof New Zealand, at Milne and Choyce's i Reception Hall, Auckland, by St. I Andrew's Ladies' Auxiliary. Large bowls of huge tango and rust-coloured zinnias made, a delightful mass of colouring, and these were also used in delicate green or amber vases for the tables. The official, table was differently arranged with blue and mauve delphiniums. Mrs. J. S. Black (president) handed to Miss Mac Donald a lovely emblem of mauve and cream statice, arranged in the form of a St. Andrews Cross, and Dr. Gladys Montgomery gave her a bouquet of sweet peas and maidenhair fern. Pipe music was played by Miss Nancy Gray, and songs were sung by Mrs. Rattray, with accompaniments by Miss Lilian Braithwaite. A badge of the society was pinned on the guest of honour by Mrs. W. H. Tongue. In her speech Miss Mac Donald spoke of her appreciaI tion of the scenery of the country, and likened it to that of Scotland, although on a vaster scale. She spoke of .her regret at the destruction of the forests by deer, which she was told was the reason of there being so few birds to be heard in the country, this being a great pity, and the song of birds was one of the lovely features of the Homeland. Other speeches'were made and a very delightful and interesting time was passed by "all present.
