DUE TO CORRUPTION ?
TOKIO, October 2.
It is reported that experts of the Japanese Ministry of Education have formed the opinion that the underlying cause of the collapse of so many .schools in the recent typhoon was corruption in regard to their construction.
Contractors and ofrieials, it is estimated, shared 30 per cent, of the cost of the schools between thorn.
In Osaka there is now sharp criticism that the Government does not sufficiently appreciate the seriousness of the disaster to Japanese industry.
Tho interruption to production means, it is pointed out, that the output is diminished by £10,000,000 a month. Co-ordinated plans for reconstruction arc still lacking.
Prices are rising, and fifty arrests for profiteering have been made. The police are closely watching the shops, with the result that some profiteers became alarmed, and rushed to the police station offering contributions to the relief fund.
