In a Nazi drive to induce Ge-rimins to speak pui-o German tho words the Greeks had for "telephone" and its cognates arc frowned upon. "Tclephon" has had a place in the. German language, but is ■giving way to tho approved "fcrnsprecher "-^- literally "distance talker," for tho noun, and "fernsagen" —to "say at a distance"—for tho verb. The German postal authority, Heinrich yon Stephan, is agitating for the elimination of "postkarto" for "korrcspon.denzkarte." In this connection a semiofficially inspired editorial points out that "the word 'pbstkarte' is selfexplanatory now, and we laugh at 'korrespondenz'karte,' but in a few years we ■will scoff,at words of, non-Germanic origim" _^________
