TWO FIRES

Two fires which broke out within a, few minutes of each other on Sunday morning were quickly suppressed by the> Fire Brigade without great damage being done. At 12.35 a.m. the brigade was summoned to a two-storeyed concrete build-ing,-occupied by Associated Batteries, Ltd., at 3 Roxburgh Street. Only minor damage was done by the fire, which is thought to have been caused_ by the overheating of a resistance in a bat-tery-charging circuit. The call to the second fire was tcceived at 12.48 a.m. An electric iron left on in tho kitchenette- of a nineroomed wooden house at 316 Main Road, Karori, caused flames to spread up the wall and into the roof, which was extensively damaged without the rest of the house being greatly affected, though the kitchenette suffered. The house is owned and occupied by Mrs. Charlotte Wood.
