INCREASED TURNOVER
LONDON RETAIL' TRADE
BIG MOTOR-CAR BUSINESS
(By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON, October 13. Investigations by the "Daily Telegraph" provide the following indications of prosperity. Hotels report 20 to 30 per cent, increases in business over 1933. Many theatres this week were turning away hundreds of people, and are booked up weeks ahead; garages with a capacity of hundreds of cars have had to display "house full" notices in the evenings; West End shops report an average increase o£ '25 per cent. in the number of customers. Following good trade reports, London shopkeepers report that business generally is brisk, and say this is the best October since the boom year of 192 G. A large number of Dominion and foreign visitors are in Britain spending plenty of money. Apparently the amount of "imported" wealth now in London is greater than at any time in the past few years. I The "Daily Mail" says that the motor j show exhibits represent the work of 2000 firms. All records as regards the number and value of exhibits arc broken. The chief mechanical feature is the development of the 20 horse-power car, of which there are 70 different types, averaging £270 in price. The sales are already 50 per cent, above last year.
