TRAMWAY DISPUTE
TRANSPORT IN MELBOURNE
OFFICIAL STATEMENT
MELBOURNE, October 12. The Victorian Government is taking action to provide transport in the event of a strike next Tuesday. It is depending largely on motor vehicles and buses under police protection. Mr. A. Cameron, chairman .of the Tramways Board, in a statement, said that tho board had already promised the men's representatives an equitable share of traffic receipts during the Centenary celebrations, and asked them to trust the board to do the right thing in the event of its revenue being greatly augmented. Mr. Cameron also emphasised that there would be an increased staff, and more trains in opora- [ tion in order to cope with the extra traffic. '
