SECOND LEG MISSES

OPEN SEVEN TO CYCLONIC

West Tor, with K. Yoitre in the saddle, was backed down to good favouritism in the Grandstand Handicap, the other open event during the day, for he hails from the same stable as Walton Park, but after having every chance he was completely outclassed by Cyclonic, a highlybred horse who has recently raced ..with mixed fortune. With Cyclonic performing up to hie breeding the others were never in it over the closing stages. Cyclonic was always going well behind Royal Routine and Navaho, and he could have passed them at any point. Royal Routine stopped with all brakes as soon as they hit the straight, and Navaho was not to enjoy the leadership for many moments, as Cyclonic ran past him easily and continued on to score very decisively by throe lengths from the favourite. The winner is a four-year-old entire Lalf-brother by Hunting Song to the Derby winner Cylinder, and he is owned by his trainer, J. H. Jefferd. First up in the ■winter he won two races on end, but then had an exasperating shojt run of minor placings. At his last start prior to yesterday he went badly at Napier Park, but it was fairly clear that that was not his right form. West Tor received a great run through along the fence on the home turn, but was never any match for his victor. Passion Fruit, well back most of the way, came home solidly along the outer to' deprive Navaho of third money a length and a half behind West Tor. Lady Spy, alongside Cyclonic to the straight, was right up fifth, lengths clear of Prince Colossus. Royal Routine, unable to get away from his field, finished nearly a furlong back last.
