MUTTON AND LAMB WEAKER
The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close, of business this week:—
The market for wethers is depressed owing to absence of demand. The demand for ewes is moderate with prices-'a little lower. There is a weaker tendency for lambs owing to seasonal decline in demand. The demand and prices for beef are steady. Trade, generally affected by unfavourable weather. Wethers, light 4"% dto 5d per lb, heavy 4%d to 4%d; ewes, 2%d to 3%d; lambs, 2's 6 7-8 d to 7 l-Bd, B's 6%d to 6%d, 4's 5%d to 6d, seconds 6d to 6 3-8 d; ox hinds 3d to 3 3-8 d; fores 2 l-8d to 2 3-Bd. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, elated October 12, giving North , Island frozen meat quotations, as follows: —Down lambs, 28/361b 7 3-B<l per lb, 36/421b 6%d; crossbred lambs, 28/361b 7 1-Sd, 36421b 6 5-8 d; . second quality lambs, average 30/311b, 6 3-8 d; wethers, under 481 bsd, 48/561b 4%d, 56/641b 4%d, 64/721b i 5-8 d; ewes, under 481b 3%d, 48/o6lb 3%d, 56/641b 3%d, 64/721b 3 l-8d; New Zealand prime ok beef, 160/2201b, 2%d. Compared with last week's quotations, North Island Down lamb, 36/421b, l-8d per lb lower; wether^, under 561b, %d per lb lower, 56/721b l-8d per lb lower; ewes, l-8d per lb lower; prime ox beef, l-16d per lb lower; others unchanged. The market is ■quiet.
