LONG CYCLE RACE

PETONE

The annual Palmerstpn North to Wellington cycle race is to take place next Saturday, but this year, instead of the finishing post being at the Basin Reserve, competitors, after coining down the Ngahauranga Gorge, will go on. to Petone. Approximately 100 entries have been received from all parts of New Zealand, and given good weather some outstanding riding should be seen. The Rt. Hon. J. G. C'oates has consented to present the trophies.

Ofiieials have responded to the various duties allotted them, and riders can rest assured that every cure •and precaution will be taken to ensure a Eafe ride. Messrs. Hope Gibbons, Ltd., have again given permission for about twenty members of their staff to patrol dangerous corners. The race is to be run under the jurisdiction of the Wellington Cycling Centre, and among the ollidals are many old riders. The chairman (Mr.. A. A. Nattrass) is a one-time New Zealand champion, and Mr. C. Ericsson, the senretary, is a participant in this year's event and has several years of successful racing to his credit.. Mr. S. Webber, the handicapper, has competed ' in five Palmerston North to Wellington events, and has the unique record of having been placed in four of them.
