PETONE CENTRAL CLUB
Mr. Walter Nash, M.P., performed the opening ceremony of the Petone- Central Bowling Club.
Tho president of tho club, Mr. V. A. Noble, welcomed the visitors and members. ll© expressed regret at tho death of Mr. David McKonzio, Mayor of Petone. Tho late Mr. McKenzio, ho said, was a great friend of tho club. Matters were, going exceedingly well for tho club. Several improvement's had been made to the club's property. The greens had been levelled and top-dress-ed, and in this connection considerable assistance had been given by club members. .■ Credit was due to the green-
keeper, Mr. D. Shepherd, for the excellent condition of the greens. He thauked the ladies of tho Croquet and Tennis Clubs for the assistance they had always given in providing refreshments. • He hoped tho club would have a successful season.
Mr. A. Scholefield, tho newly-appoint-ed Mayor of Petone, expressed pleasure at bciiig present; and wished tho club evcrv success.
A visitor to the greens during the af tornooa was Mr. AY. Gilbert, the president of tho AVellington Centre. . Mr. Nash, in declaring the season open, spoke of the increase in popularity of tho game in recent years, There was no doubt that it was a highly 'beneficial form of exercise, and well deserved its popularity. Mrs. Nash threw up the kitty, and Mr. Green, tho senior ex-president of the club, threw up tho first bowl. Afternoon tea was served.
