SPRINTS FROM BARRIER
Barrier practice was allotted to a number of young horses at Ellerslie on Tuesday morning, Mr. G. L. Stead officiating at the lever. A barrier was erected at the mile post for the .purpose and the horses were dispatched in batches for short sprints along the back of the course proper.
The two-year-olds Trevace (Tremain). Fei-Mah (Wiggins), Primax (Baker), and Persian Lady (Parsons) were the first to go. Trevace jumped out clear, and, after leading for two furlongs in 25 2-ssec, was joined before completing three in 38 4-5 see. They were then eased slightly and Fei-Mah led on past the half-mile in 52 2-osec. Persian Lady hung badly at the barrier and Primax was pulled up shortly after the start. .
Crooning (Clifford), Chief Emerald (Craddock), Barn Dance (Connor), Master Rex (Clarke), Overdue (Bigham), Captain Bruce (Manson), Friar Albertus (Wiggins), Arami_s (Fergus), and Sir Abb (light boy) comprised the second lot. Barn Dance was smartest to begin, but Chief Emerald soon assumed command and went half a mile in 52 2-ssec._ Crooning, Master Rex, Sir Abb, Aramis, and Fri,ar Albertus being in a bunch behind him at the finish.
Quien Sabe (Lacassie) and Primax (Baker) were the last two to go from the barrier, and they jumped out fairly well, although they were not asked to go really fast and were steadied after going two furlongs. Quien Sabe has made a good recovery from the fall that caused an interruption in his work, and is again doing nicely under the care of G. Holland.
