CROQUET OPENING

PETONE CENTRAL CLUB

The Petone Central Croquet Club opened its 1934-35 season on Wednesday in beautiful weather. There was a-large gathering of club members, friends, and visitors from other clubs. Mrs. M. Sharpe, president, welcomed the visitors. Before calling on Mrs. 11. C. Kirk to open the season, she asked all present to observe silence for a minute out of respect for the late Mr. D. MeKenzie.

Mrs. Kirk played the first ball, through the hoop. She presented a small mallet brooch to each winner of the Jensen Memorial Cup. Bouquets made by Mrs. Fox, in club colours, were presented by Miss Alice Watkinson to Mesdanies Kirk, Kelly and Sharpe. Competitions were won'by Mcsdames Hobbs (St. Augustine*), Parker (Waimarie), and Fairley and Lippitt (Xgaroma). A delightful afternoon tea was, served.
