HEAVY FINES IMPOSED
Fines amounting to £.105 wore imposed in the Magistrate's Court today upon three Chinese who pleaded guilty to using premises in Taranaki Street as common gaming houses. They were Harry Fun, aged 45, and Bing Shing, aged 48, who were each fined £40, in default two months' imprisonment, and Ah Chong, aged 41, who was fined £25, in default one month's imprisonment.
The charges resulted from searches conducted by the police between 3 and 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, said Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach. On tho premises of the three accused in Taranaki Street the police, found quantities of pakapoo paraphernalia^ Chong had not previously been before the Court, but last year, for keeping a common gaming-house, Fun was fined £40 and Shing was fined £50.

For being found without lawful excuse in a common gaming-house, Ah Choy, aged 3S, a fruiterer, John Berentson, aged 35, a canvasser, Ah Jung, aged 30, a laundryman, John Davics, aged 54, a labourer, and Wong Joe, aged 21, a gardener, were each fined £l.
