BEARING ON FUTURE POLICY
(Received May 7, 1 p.ni.)
NEW YORK, May 0. The United Press, in a copyrighted Washington dispatch, states that the airship Maeon, which, since the destruction of the Akron and the discornmissioning of- the Los Angeles, is the only navy airship on active service, is now nvanouevring with the main tattle fleet in the Caribbean Sea on tests the results of which will, have an important bearing on. the forthcoming decision whether to continue or abandon airship construction. Since the Akron disaster in 1933 it has been learned authoritatively that despite official attempts to minimise tlio incident, the Macon was affected with structural difficulties in her recent transcontinental flight from California, and sheared two girders, neeessitatiiig repairs. The airship also experienced, difficulties with climatic changes affecting the helium gas with which it is filled.
