PROTECTION SOCIETY
INCREASE OF WORK
There was a full attendance at the recent meeting of the committee of the Society for .the Protection of Women and Children.
Mrs.: Line (hon. treasurer) brought gratifying news of the response to the appeal for funds for the adequate carrying on of the work. A beautiful doll was shown, which had been presented by a member and dressed by a friend, and Mrs. O'Shea undertook to make arrangements for raffling it. Reports were given by the secretary, and by members who had staffed the office during her absence. A number of new cases had arisen, and it was agreed that further assistance was necessary for the secretary, as owing to the number of cases which arc brought to the society, the work goes on increasing. Further efforts to improve the financial position were discussed in order to enable the secretary to have regular assistance:
Mrs. D. Coutts, a new member of the committee, was cordially welcomed, and pleasure expressed that she had been able to take the place of a recentlyresigned member. Mrs. M. 11. Chatfield, J.P.: (president) presided.
