A wireless message from Little America states that Rear-Admiral Byrd flew from Little America today to direct the erection, of the expedition's 1 winter advance base on the Ross Sea Ice Barrier, 100 miles south of the main camp. He was accompanied by Messrs. Bou-lin and Bailey. The temperature was 39 below zero. It was sunny and the sky was of a Capri blue. , '■•■.-. The tractor party, under Harold June, reached the 100-mile depot yesterday morning and immediately engaged in setting up a base, being aided by the main southern party, under Captain Innes-Taylor, which was homewardbound from a southing of 150 miles. The base will serve as a meteorological station during the winter • and as a concentration point for the major journeys of next spring.
