THE BOYS' INSTITUTE
Mr. L. T. Watkins presided at the monthly meeting of the Boys' Institute management ' committee. The directors' report was discussed, and the success of many of the institute activities was commented on with pleasure. The report, stated that institute cricket teams had carried off the championships of all three boys' grades in the 1933-34 season; the institute tabletennis team' Were the undefeated champions in the Wellington D grade competition; and the Institute Brass Band were the winners of the national B grade quickstep contest. Recent improvements to the gymnasium and additions to its equipment were approved;as very satisfactory. The vacant section next to the institute building was then discussed, and it was resolved to convert this into a flood-lit training-ground ■'-. for' institute footballers, the Old Boys' clubs undertaking to provide the labour and bear half the expense. At_ the close of the meeting Mr. A. Tlowitt, on behalf, of the committee, the staff, and the boys, tbanked Mr. and Mrs. Jj. T. Watkins for their long service to the boys of Wellington, and wished them a very happy holiday during their visit to Europe. -
