SANITARY INSPECTORS

LOWER HUTT CONFERENCE

Twenty-five members of the Sanitary Inspectors' Association of New Zealand from Wellington, Wairarapa, and Manawatu spent an instructive afternoon and evening on Saturday as guests of the Lower Hutt Borough Council. The arrangements were in the hands of Mr. J. Fletcher, borough inspector of Lower Hutt. The party-was welcomed by the Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. J. W. Andrews) and accompanied him on a visit of inspeetiou to the water aud sewage pumping stations, reservoirs, and septic tanks in the borough. '■ Members of the party were informed that the equipment- included the most modern.machines of their kind in the world. Councillors C. J. Ashton and J. B. Napier also accompanied the party. . A meeting presided over by Mr. Joseph Fletcher was held in the evening when the Mayor congratulated the institute on the work it was doing in fostering public education on matters of public health. ' Air. Andrews congratulated Mr. W. G. Gough, of Petone, on being' elected president of the institute, and Mr. Gough replied, thanking the borough for its hospitality. Papers were read by Mr. B. F. Mainland, Borough Engineer, on Lower. Hutt civic services, and by Mr. J. Frethey, on the Lower Hutt sewerage scheme.
