ISLAND BAY CANVASS

Plans for the building up of a fund for the assistance of necessitous people in (the Island Bay-district were discussed at a meeting of the district inter-church relief committee and associated organisations last evening. Mr. C. B.,MeDougall was in the chair. Mr. H. J. Howarth spoke of the amount of distress in Island Bay and of tho difficulty in trying to obtain fuuds to supplement relief workers meagre earnings. The inter-church committee was now somewhat limited1 in its activities by the .depletion of the Mayor's fund. .... The meeting decided that a house-to-house canvass should be instituted throughout the district and that residents of the bay be asked to contribute 6d a week' towards the funds of the committee.''
