"BARBAROUS RACE"
KELLERMAN CUP SWIM
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. ''It's a barbarous race, and the winner should get fifty quid," said Mr. S. C. Anderson at a meeting of the Canterbury Swimming Centre last night when the Annette Kellcr'man Cup race was under discussion. It was pointed . out that the winner would hold the challenge cup for a year,! and would also get a gold medal from the New Zealand Council, while the swimmer securing. second place, and the competitor who recorded the fastest time, had received nothing. Elaborating on the trying nature'of the race, Mr. Anderson said that the winner was blind and deaf, and could not stand when, he finished.' ' It was decided, after a short discussion, to give a guinea trophy to T. Newth (who finished second) and J. C. Blakeley (who made fastest time)..
