SHOP WINDOW SMASHED

A PEDESTRIAN INJURED

The intersection of Willis and Boulcott Streets was the scene of a good deal of excitement shortly after 5 o'clock last evening when a motor-car driven by Miss Ruth Hay, of 30 Kauri Street, Miramar, crashed into the win.dow of Messrs. Adams Bruce, Ltd.'s, shop at 120 Willis Street, knocking down and injuring a pedestrian at the same time. The pedestrian,, Mr. A. S. Clarke, New Zealand manager for the British Traders' Assurance Company, who was walking up Willis Street, was' knocked through the window of the shop. His right'leg was fractured, and he received some minor cuts. He was taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. Miss Ha}', who is well known as an instructor in physical culture, had driven her car down Boulcott Street,* and was turning .down Willis Street when the mishap ocurred: The car failed to straighten up, and suddenly leapt forward, mounted the footpath snapping', one' of thd hollow iron verandah posts, and ended up amongst tho cakos displayed in the shop window. The car was not badly damaged, but Miss Hay, its solo occupant, was severely shaken. After a few minutes the car was .pulled clear of the footpath, but for nearly an hour afterwards tho police were engaged in moving' on pedestrians who lingered to view the ruins of. the shop window;.. .
