AN UNUSUAL CASE
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHKISTCHURCH, This Da}-. On the grounds of constructive desertion, Elsie Heighton petitioned for divorce in the Supreme Court this morning, before his Honour Mr. Justice Johnston. The respondent, Herbert William Heighton, a bricklayer, was a Sunday school superintendent, who was sentenced in 1928 to ten years' reformative detention for offences against girls, but was released last year. In this unusual type of case, it was submitted by counsel, the nature of the crimes was such -as to establish grounds for divorce. The man had not maintained his wife since his release. The offences were carried on without the knowledge of the wife. His Honour stated that he would have to consider the point, and reserved his decision. The petition was not defended.
