EOTANICAL GARDENS ENTRANCE
.' (To the Editor.) Sir,—Many hundreds of visitors, from overseas and residents, of the city and Kelburn use the entrance from Kelburn "tram to Botanical Gardens. What was once a beautiful view from the tram stop has been destroyed.- Residents have known for some time that the present entrance was to be closed and a better one provided, land having been exchanged' with the Cable Car Co. for this purpose. Instead of a new and imposing entrance having been planned and carried into effect, there is now a three-foot path winding in behind the engine-room, to meet another longer and more winding track from the end of Upland Road. It does seem that the position here has gone from bad to worse.. The Botanical Gardens and Observatory grounds are surely worthy of an entrance more in keeping with ,the standard of the City of Wellington. I have no hesitation in saying that the new entrance only has to be seen to be condemned; surely it will not be allowed to remain in its present condition.—l am etc.,. ' . 1 .-■ "SALAMANCA.
