FRIENDLY FAREWELL
ARTISTS' GATHERING
A presentation to Mrs. 'E. Eosa Sawtell, who will be leaving for England at an early date, was made at a meeting of the New Zealand Society of Artists held in the Teachers' Training College buildings, states a Christchurch exchange. • "Mrs. Sawtell has been a very good friend to Christehureh art and artists," said Professor Shelley, president of the society, in making the presentation. "I know that she will leave a very great gap in the art life here—a gap that sadly needs filling—for she has made contacts with the artists, and has been instrumental in creating a community feeling among them.''' For many years Mrs. Sawtell had generously devoted time and means to- the advancement of the cultural life of the city, and had earned the gratitude .and esteem of all with whom she came in contact. On behalf of members, Professor Shelley gave Mrs. Sawtell Laurence Binyon's book, ."English •Water-Colours.''
